We know how difficult it can be finding places to eat out that are well suited for our patients looking to change to a natural, high fiber, no cholesterol, plant-based diet based on Vegetables, Fruits, Nuts and Whole Grains.
As we discover local Austin eateries that are suitable we will place them here. This is not an all inclusive list but rather a list of restaurants we have tried ourselves and are happy to recommend. There are no doubt, some wonderful places that we have not experienced yet. We would appreciate your letting us know about them! Until then we recommend that you try out these listed restaurants. And, please let them know that Linda Carney MD, of AllMedPhysicians, recommended you.

Probably the healthiest food in Austin and also very tasty. The food is simple and tastefully prepared. Every thing is organic and follows the Macrobiotic lifestyle. To be honest, we do not always send everybody here as their first foray into plant based foods because it may take some time for your palate to become refined enough to where you find this food delicious. But, we do believe that once you start down the road of plant based nutrition you will eventually come to the place where you appreciate, and enjoy, the cuisine at Casa de Luz. We love this restaurant!

This is generally the first restaurant we take people to, in Austin, who are learning to appreciate plant based nutrition. The atmosphere is peaceful, the food is delicious and while it is not entirely plant based the majority of menu items can be prepared purely plant based. This restaurant is a vegetarian icon in Austin. One warning, even though they give you virtually unlimited chips and salsa while waiting, go lightly on those (yes, easier said than done) because otherwise you may become full before your nutritious and delicious meal arrives. You won't want to miss any of your meal. Take it from us, we know!

OK. Two immediate disclaimers: 1) This restaurant also serves meat. 2) The food is not nescessarily low fat. So, our advice to you. Don't partake of the meat and don't eat here every day! But, do eat here sometimes. We come for special treats. Another warning, the food is very Ethiopian. So, if you do not like those flavors (and it is very flavorful) you won't like this restaurant. If you like Ethiopian food, it doesn't get any better than this! One side of their menu is plant based. That is the side to eat from! Eat food purely from plants for optimal health. Might we suggest you try the AlichaMiser (Split lentils cooked to perfection with ginger and garlic).

Partly Plants

Inexpensive, fast service, delicious, vegetarian Chinese food. What is not to love about it? Let's see; The space is very cramped and sometimes they have a hard time keeping the dining area clean with the high turnover. But, the food is very good (avoid the fried foods), which along with the affordability explains the high customer volume. The menu is plant based except for one or two items on their menu with dairy, which are beverages, that we do not partake of. They do not have an official web site although we have found a MySpace page with pictures, and a slide show, of their meals. The owners, by the way, are activists in supporting Falun Gong and you will encounter some of their beliefs there.
